Ocular Migraines
One of the most common, and not-so-frequently diagnosed entities, is an ocular migraine,
which exhibits all of the ocular symptoms of a classic migraine without the systemic side effects; that is, no headache,
nausea, and vomiting. People may experience colored floaters and flashes of light, lightening bolts, shimmering lights
within their visual fields, and even total, but temporary, loss of vision. The symptoms get worse as the day progresses,
and resolve spontaneously. Factors that cause classic migraines may also trigger an ocular migraine. The symptoms are
similar to those of a retinal detachment; therefore, an eye examination is necessary as soon as the symptoms occur.
